Erica's Top Reads of 2013

Even though it's not quite December, I've already started compiling a list of my top reads of 2013. I figured I was pretty safe doing this now since I'm not sure how much reading I'm going to get done this month and next between the holiday festivities and trying to finish writing Pieces of Me.
As soon as I'm done writing though I'm totally reading Sentinel by Jennifer Armentrout and The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead and I can pretty much guarantee they will make the list. :)

But as of right now, here are my top 2013 reads:
  1. The Sea of Tranquility Katja Millay because even months later I still think about this book. I don't think an ending has ever affected me as much as the two simple words "Your garage."

  2. Wait for You J. Lynn (Jennifer Armentrout) because Cam is my new all time favorite book boyfriend.  And now I think I want to eat some eggs for breakfast just thinking about him...

  3. This is the old cover that I still love best
Sweet Thing Renee Carlino because I fell in love with this cover and I'm so sad that it got a new one when it got picked up by a publisher. This was super sweet, funny and even a little steamy. Loved it

  4. On an Edge of Glass/In this Moment are tied because they are both by one of my most favorite people in the world, Autumn Doughton, and I loved them both so I couldn't choose just one!

  5. Suddenly Royal Nichole Chase because I had a ridiculous grin on my face throughout most of this book. I loved it because there was no relationship drama, just a story about a girl who was adjusting to this brand new world that was thrust upon her and the Prince Charming who patiently waited for her to realize she loved him too.

  6. The Help Kathryn Stockett because I loved the book and the movie equally and that never has happened before.

  7. Tangled by Emma Chase because Emma rocked the male POV! This was another perfect combination of sweet and steamy and quite frankly it made me LOL at times too.

  8. The Fault in our Stars by John Green because I loved the banter between the main characters and it's one of the few books that I've read that I honestly thought was perfection.

  9. Night Owl by M. Pierce because the author is such a mystery! I mean, have you visited the author's website? He, or She because I still don't know, IS the main character of the book. It's written by M. Pierce, the main character's pen name is M. Pierce. The author lives in Colorado with a pet rabbit. The main character lives in Colorado with a pet rabbit. Seriously. I'm very intrigued...Plus, though it is a little on the erotica side, the writing is actually really fantastic.
This book just got picked up by a publisher like I knew it would! So congrats M. Pierce--whoever you are!

  10. Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire because I waited forever to read this book and when I did it was totally worth all the hype. I read it in one sitting and immediately read Walking Disaster as soon as it came out.

So people, what are your top 2013 reads? Or are you not saying until Dec 31st? :)

    XOXO

Why the Women of Dash are Hilarious

I forget who started the conversation on Facebook, but one of us did. In a matter of hours, the four of us had sent a couple of hundred messages back and forth, in between our "normal" lives, (maybe non-writing lives would be a better term).

The conversation started off talking about Dash: when to post, what to post, how to drum up some more networking and followers. Conversation moved on to what we are reading and writing and getting feedback from each other, helping each other promote our novels. There was a lot of bouncing ideas around.

Now - well all those things still happen. But there are some other things that get discussed.
We help each other pick out outfits, come up with mascots for our books, discuss our love of food, and make fun of each other (in a very nice way. Go ahead. Read some of our conversations.

See I told you we were funny.

Cover reveal for Harper Sloan's Beck

I met Harper at the Indie Author Mash Up two weeks ago in Arkansas.  She was so sweet and funny I just had to buy her books.  Unfortunately I got distracted and only bought Axel, but I messaged her later and she sent me a copy of Cage too!  Now she's releasing a third book with in the same series called Beck.  OMG are these men YUMMY!  I definitely stepped out of my norm reading Axel and I loved it.  I can't wait to get Cage started and I will for sure be picking up Beck when it's released!

Here's a brief synopsis:

DEE
I’ve always been good at wearing masks. Not letting anyone see the real me. I’m content being the happy-go-lucky best friend. The strong willed boss. The independent woman who doesn’t need a man.

But the truth is I’m just as broken as the rest of you. I’m terrified that all it will take is one person to make all my carefully constructed walls crumble into fine dust. So I guard my heart with everything I have. Determined to never let anyone get close enough to hurt me again.

All is perfect until HE walks into my life. No… he doesn’t just walk. He struts his good-looking, sex-oozing self right into my space and demands that I see HIM. Making me want what I know I can’t have.

So I did the only thing I know how to do.

I run.

But he just won’t let me go.

BECK
The second I see her, I know she will be mine. I see past the gorgeous smiles and heart-stopping laughter. I see  HER. She doesn’t want me to know her secrets or the past that haunts her, but I make it my mission to find out.

To make her mine.

She can run all she wants, but it will never be far enough to stop me from coming after her.

She's it for me and she knows it.

Shes just too scared to admit it.

Cover Reveal and Giveaway for JL Berg's When You're Ready

I had the pleasure of meeting author JL Berg at the Indie Author Mash Up last month in Arkansas.  She was so sweet and nice that I just had to buy her book, When You're Ready.  Today we are revealing and brand new cover for her and it is gorgeous! It was designed by OK Creations

Here's a little bit about it:
Years after suffering the tragic loss of her husband, Ethan, which left her alone to raise their young daughter, Clare Murray still holds the last letter he wrote with the words "When You're Ready" written in his familiar messy handwriting, unable to break its weathered seal. Ready for what? He was her entire world, and Clare had accepted a life without him, without love. Until years later, fate brings her to an emergency room, and face to face with a stormy-eyed doctor intent on changing her mind.

Son of a billionaire, Logan Matthews has spent his life trying to make his absentee father proud. Without a family to depend on, all he’s ever wanted is a place to call home. After a failed marriage, Logan believes he’s unworthy of love…until he meets a woman who awakens his spirit and transforms his entire life in an instant.

But how far are Clare and Logan willing to go for love?  Can his love mend the pieces of her grieving heart?

When their love is tested, is Clare ready to put her whole heart on the line again? Can Logan learn the true meaning of love, even if it means sacrificing his own happiness? When a second chance at love is given, Clare and Logan learn you are never truly ready until you're ready to risk it all.

Cover Reveal: Walker by Michelle Flick

I'm so happy to help reveal the cover of our very own Michelle Flick's upcoming release WALKER!

Title: Walker
Author: Michelle Flick
Genre: YA Paranormal
Release Date: DEC 11th!!!!!!

Kate isn’t thrilled to be moving to the middle of nowhere. She's already lost her parents, now she's leaving the only place she's ever known as home. She’s not there long when she realizes her dreams aren’t her own and that she has the ability to walk through other people's dreams. Not only that, but she might have found her dream guy--literally. He's in her dreams. Just when she starts to get the hang of dream walking, strange murders in her new town start to occur. Girls are being killed as they sleep with no evidence, no suspects and no clear motive behind the deaths. It doesn’t take Kate very long to realize that the girls aren’t just being killed as they sleep—they’re being killed in their sleep.

Kate must figure out how to find the killer in the real world and keep the ones she loves safe while they sleep.
Doesn't it just sound so awesome? It is! I got to beta read it and I loved it so much! I think it's my favorite of her stories (and I've read 3!) so far.
Definitely add it on Goodreads!!

NaNoWriMo

Hi ya'll! Soooooo it's NOVEMBER! Last year I remember seeing a lot of people post about this whole National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) thing. I was intrigued BUT I hadn't even published one novel yet (can you believe so much has happened this year? I mean, I published TWO books in 2013!) so I didn't think I would be able to accomplish writing a 50k novel in only a month but this year, I'm a little more confident.

And by "little more" I mean, just a teeny tiny grain of hope that I can.

Michelle and Heather are also participating so that makes it fun! I don't know if their stories are top secret or not so I won't share what they are writing about but both sound super good so I'm excited to read them when they finish.

So far I'm ahead of schedule but I tried hard to get a head start just in case I don't have as much time as we get closer to Thanksgiving. Right now I'm on pace to finish on the 21st though!

The story I'm writing is called Pieces of Me, you can find the cover and blurb over on my author blog. If I finish, I'll probably try to publish by the end of the year but I think it's safe to say it will at least be published in early 2014 because this is a story that's been in my head for a while now so it's about time I got it down on paper.

It's been a crazy year right? I mean, we had our first big book convention that Komal and I attended as authors, and Heather attended as a blogger, I published Lark and In the Shadows,  Komal published Falling for Hadie and Wrong Side of Town, and Michelle had a baby and is getting ready to publish Walker. I can't wait to see what next year brings!

So anyway, that's what I'll be doing this month, writing my little heart out. What about you? Are you participating in NaNoWriMo? Thinking about participating next year? Let's chat!

XOXO
